Episode 70 we talked about local concert happenings including the announcements made by The Winnipeg Folk Festival.

This year’s festival line-up features an eclectic mix of local, US and international artists including The Jayhawks (Minnesota) who just recently reunited, legends Little Feat (California), and M. Ward (Oregon) who is making folk music cool for a whole new generation of listeners. For millions of fans across the US and around the world, The Del McCoury Band (Tennessee) is the epitome of the “high and lonesome” bluegrass sound and Toots and the Maytals (Jamaica) are living legends of ska and reggae music, performing a unique and original combination of both genres infused with gospel, soul and rock.
This years folk festival will also include performances from KD Lang, Blue Rodeo and Tegan and Sara.
On this episode we featured a track from Trampled By Turtles (Minnesota) which was recorded in 2009 from the 10,000 Lakes Festival.  Trampled by Turtles will also be playing at this years Folk Festival.

More information on the Winnipeg Folk Festival can be found by visiting The Winnipeg Folk Festival Website at winnipegfolkfest.ca.
Also on today's show Natty introduced our new segment called World Beat in which we will feature artists and music from around the world in an effort to introduce our listeners to songs they may not have heard of.
To kick it off, Natty introduced us to Butterfly Boucher who performed alongside Sarah Mclaughlin at The MTS Centre on March 8th 2011.
We played a track called "Another White Dash" from her debut album "Flutterby" which was released in 2003.
Natty recalled the first time seeing Butterfly Boucher on a previous tour. Natty shared that she only ended up purchasing Boucher's album after she returned a Mclaughlin tour t-shirt in exchange for the Flutterby Album.
Finally on this week's episode we followed up with Episode 69 and our discussion with Darren Ford on the return of a NHL Team to Winnipeg.
The feedback we received from our fans was impressive. Some questions that stemmed from our conversation were based on naming rights to a NHL Team in Winnipeg.

Some speculated that it would be called The Winnipeg Jets, others (including Andru) thought that True North Sports & Entertainment might just retain the rights to The Manitoba Moose and just keep with their marketing campaign with them, others thought it would be something completely different.

We opened up our e-mail inbox to your comments and thoughts on what you would call a NHL team in Winnipeg. E-mail us at info(at)wakeupwinnipeg(dot)com with your name suggestions for a NHL Team and we will let you know what we feel our favorite pick ends up being.

Tune in next week for another action packed adventure of Wake Up Winnipeg on UMFM 101.5 FM
